GOOD NEWS FOR THE NEW YEAR!
The long awaited health clinic for Subang Jaya is one step closer to being realised thanks to the persistence of Kelana Jaya MP Wong Chen and ADUN Subang Jaya Hannah Yeoh.
The good news came in the form of a letter from the Education Ministry to Wong Chen informing him that a 1.715ha piece of land originally marked for a school in USJ1 had been approved to be transferred to the Ministry of Health for the purposes of building a health clinic instead.
"We received a letter from MoE in early January 2017 informing us that the Minister had signed the letter on December 5 2016 approving the transfer of the land to the MoH."
"It's a big milestone for us since we took up the challenge in 2008 to pursue this matter," he said.
Wong Chen said the matter had been tabled by him in Parliament twice and he was told via written replies that the matter had been dealt with.
"We wrote to MoE in November 2015 to ask about the status of the land. And from mid-2016, we started sending reminder letters every two to three weeks."
"After the 16th letter, we received the good news," he said at a press conference.
Wong Chen said the next step was now to ensure that MoH obtain the budget to build the clinic in the 2018 Budget.
"We estimate that MoH will need RM20mil to build a suitable clinic for Subang Jaya."
"I will have a word with the Health Minister in the coming Parliament sitting in March," he added.
Hannah who was also present said the pursuit for a health clinic for Subang Jaya started way back in 2008.
"We were told funds had been allocated in the 9th Malaysia Plan but subsequently we were told that the funds had been frozen and there was no land to build the clinic."
"MPSJ offered a piece of land along USJ1/33 but was told it was too small for the purpose. For a long time since then, residents wanting to seek medical attention had to travel to Kelana Jaya or Puchong where the nearest health clinics were," she said.
Hannah said the land in USJ1 which was meant for a school was suitable to be used as the site for the health clinic.
"It is our hope that MoH has the funds to build the clinic. Many Subang Jaya residents will benefit from the clinic."
"We need a government clinic to help meet the needs of the poor and retirees," she said.
