Hannah and Zaidy looking at the Klang River which runs by USJ1
FOR years now, the occupants of the industrial units in USJ1 adjacent to Sungai Klang and the nearby Sungai Penaga have been suffering from flash floods every time it rains heavily.
But this will soon be a thing of the past if proposals to build a flood retention pond in the vicinity get the green light from the Selangor State Government’s Standing Committee on Flood Mitigation, according to ADUN Subang Jaya Hannah Yeoh.
“We have proposed to build a flood retention pond on a piece of State land which was previously occupied illegally next to the river.”
“We will submit the application to build the facility to the Standing Committee on Flood Mitigation,” she said after a visit to the proposed site in USJ1 with State Exco Zaidy Abdul Talib who chairs the Infrastructure, Public Amenities and Agro-based Industry portfolio.
Zaidy said he would review the technical aspects and cost of the project to justify building the retention pond.
“This site is suitable for a flood retention pond. We will meet this month (May) and the State Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) will study the technical aspects and cost of the project.”
“If we can, we will include this project into this year’s budget,” he said.
Zaidy said the State would get right into studying the technical aspects which includes surveying and designing the pond.
“We can prioritise this project based on the feedback we have received and what we have seen on the ground,” he added.
