Come the end of April, a majestic masterpiece of sculptured art will be on display at Sunway Pyramid’s Water Feature area, located on the Ground Floor. Made solely using mild steel rods and sheets, weighing in at a mammoth two tonnes while measuring at two meters wide and five meters long, ‘Victor’ the lion took five months of work to be realised.
Infantino Fernandes, a native of Mumbai, India is a self taught artist and has been working with several mediums since a very young age. After dabbling in Mechanical Engineering, he graduated and went on to become a Chef. It was during those early years that he honed his sculpting skills using Ice as his medium. He later branched out and created a niche for himself using other mediums such as Aluminium, Wood and Steel. Infantino has, in the past been commissioned by various International hotel chains to do work at properties in China, Japan, Australia, Dubai, Kuwait, India, Sri Lanka and Malaysia.
"As most of my previous work suggests, I am inspired mostly by nature and try ever so much with every piece to do justice to creation. My quest is to reveal the unique beauty in simple subjects and try to discover their true character,” said Infantino. “My most preferred medium till date has been Mild Steel, because it challenges me to try and install life into my work using a medium that is stubbornly rigid. I try and portray the rigidity of the medium by opting for an organic or raw finish, which interestingly also gives my work a lot more character.”

“Sunway Pyramid hopes to mesmerise visitors with works of art during their visit here. The masterpiece, ‘Victor’, will not only fascinate art lovers but also enthral the general audience as well,” said Kevin Tan, Chief Operating Officer of Sunway Shopping Malls. “Shopping centres today are a lifestyle destination where people rendezvous not only for shopping but socially for leisure and entertainment too."
Infantino’s previous work, ‘Yang’, can be found at Sunway Putra Mall in Kuala Lumpur. ‘Yang’ The Ram was originally placed at the Pyramid Concourse on LG1 and garnered much attention from shoppers.
‘Victor’ is a symbol of a free spirit that has been through alot of adversities in the past but is determined to conquer what lies ahead. Art is subjective so take a look for yourself and tell us what you see!
